It’s in your
toothpaste, your facemask, even in your soap! What is the big deal about
Charcoal?

Back in 2015 was when we first started hearing about the
powers of charcoal. Since then it has spread from beauty products to our
household items to our food. Everywhere we look there seems to be a hue of
grey. If you’re like me, you might have gotten caught up in the trend without
intending to and now somehow you have been partaking in some benefits that you
have no idea what they are. I’m here to inform you how charcoal can help you in
the many different forms of products we see it in today.

We’ll start at the very beginning, the birth of the charcoal
trend, the toothpaste. It was hard to go on social media without seeing someone
with seriously black teeth that somehow turned their teeth whiter. How does it
work? According to Trust
Dental Care these toothpastes are made from a form of charcoal called
Activated Charcoal. Activated Charcoal has natural adhesive qualities that
cause it to pick up stains from coffee, tea, wine and plaque. This same quality
is why you will see this in your face masks or soap. The adhesive trait of the charcoal
will be sure to pick up any excess dirt leaving your body and face squeaky
clean.

A new invention where you can find this charcoal trend is in
a Japanese scrubbing towel. The activating charcoal allows you to exfoliate
your body from the toxins of everyday dirt and grime. There is a towel
available on Amazon.com that is only $20 that has multiple textures for
different extents of exfoliation.

Now for the weirdest place to find this trend, in your food.
According to blogger
Dr. Axe, activated charcoal has many health benefits for the body. It
alleviates bloating, helps prevent hangovers, helps digestion and even reduces
high cholesterol. So, there you have it. That’s what this trend that you can’t
avoid is going help you out.

While working out is always on trend, lately what you do
before and after your workout has become even more popular. There are many ways
that people have been taking care of their bodies outside of working out but
lately there are two ways that have been trending over Instagram.

First, Cryofeul located in TriBeca on Colby street.
Cryotherapy chambers rapidly cool the body, accelerating muscle recovery and
skin rejuvenation. Cryogenically chilled air reduces inflammation and
stimulates collagen production. The reduction of inflammation helps to
accelerate injury recovery. Collagen helps reduce signs of aging and cellulite.
You can see these chambers on the Instagrams of super models such as Karlie
Kloss and GiGi Hadid who calls it her beauty “secret weapon” according to NYC
& PT. Cryo Skin 2.0 is a new form of Cryotherapy that naturally destroys
fat cells, remove cellulite, and reduce signs of aging. CryoSkin 2.o is $350
per session and full body Cryotherapy is $75 per session.

Higher Dose has three locations in Manhattan, one in the
Equinox on 74th st, 11 Howard Hotel and another on Bowery. Higher
Dose saunas are equipped with far, mid, and near infrared rays. Far Infrared
rays can access deep into human tissue wich increase the bodies temperature
which will detoxify you, help in wieghtloss and blood pressure reduction. Mid
infrared rays are optimal for increasing circulation even after the session is
finished, it is said to have the same benefits of a cardiovascular workout.
Near Infrared rays are beneficial for skin rejuvenation, would healing and skin
health. A special addition to Higher Dose sauna sessions, which makes it
especially Instagramable is the chromotherapy. According to The Sunlighten Blog
chromotherapy, also known as light therapy, can reduce swelling, relieve pain,
decrease inflammation, accelerate open wound healing and greatly reduce overall
recovery after medical procedures. It is also known for anti-aging and skin
benefits as well as helping with the emotional aspect of the body. A 60 minute session is $65
per session and a 30 minute session is $45 per session.

So if you are looking for a way to make your workout more
optimal and your Instagram look like that of a workout guru or top model, check
out Cryofeul and Higher Dose.

has been going, you'll have a few more days before you can break out the mini
skirts and shorts. Where do you go to work on your summer body? Why not
the places that some of the best models are known to frequent? Here is a list
of five different workouts that are visited by some of the top models in the
business:

<span style="color: black; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.5pt;">Simone de la Rue opened her first studio in
2011, where she helped people dance their way into better shape. Now she has
six studios, including one in midtown west right by the water. BBS has five signature classes; Dance Cardio,
Full Body, ABC (Arms, Back and Core), HTB (Hips, Thighs, and Buns) and
Trampoline Cardio. Each class costs around $35 for a drop in class and $160 for
a package of five classes. Since each class is ballet based, models find the
lean muscles they are looking for and a fun way to get in their cardio.<span style="color: black; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.5pt;">

<span style="color: black; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.5pt;">Strengthen Lengthen Tone, the name alone draws
models to the studio. In fact, it calls anyone who is looking to get abs and
muscles without the bulk. SLT was founded in 2011 by Amanda Freedman and now
has seven locations in Manhattan alone. It is a reformer pilates class that
highlights slow-twitch muscle movements, controlled movements and counter
resistance to give a hardcore pilates workout. Classes start at $40 per single
class and $195 for a package of five classes.

<span style="color: black; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.5pt;">Flex Studios offers another option in the
reformer pilates workout. In my experience the weight is a little less heavy at
Flex compared to SLT, which is great for people who bulk up more easily.
Another positive to Flex is that they offer more than just pilates! When you
purchase a class package you have the option to use it for a reformer pilates
class, barre class, and TRX. Since 2012, when Jeanette Simon started Flex, the
studio has opened two locations in union square and NOHO.

Y3 teams up with basketball player James Harden to create a line that the ladies and gents can love.

There have been many celebrity collaborations over the years of fashion; Rosie H-W for Paige, GiGi Hadid for Tommy Hilfiger, Victoria Beckham for Target and many more. Last Friday, a new contender hit the shelves at the self proclaimed, sport style pioneers, Y3. According to GQ, this isn't your average collaberation. Y3 brand designer, Yohji Yamamoto, not only worked with Harden while creating his newest line, he inspired Yamamoto. The collection, which includes an oversized bomber jacket, socks, tailored shirt, cropped pants, and sneakers is mostly stark black with a bright pink flower seen throughout. There is also a t-shirt and a tank top that come in a navy and white pattern, which stick out from the rest of the collection. Known as "The King of Flowers", the Botan flower symbolizes honor, respect, good fortune, bravery and nobility in Japanese culture.

The highlight of the line has been the sneakers, which feature a large Botan flower on one side and the Y3 symbol on the other. HIGHSNOBIETY describes the shoe as a call back to Adidas 90's basketball, with BOOST tooling, a stretch neoprene upper and zigzag lacing system. James Harden BOOSTs are on the pricier side of sneakers, seen on shelves and the Y3 website at $400. These are the second pair of sneakers that Harden and Y3 worked on together. The first, also called James Harden BOOST, come in two color ways (white and black/ white). The sneaker was first seen on the runway at the Y3 fall/winter show in Paris Fashion Week and is sold for $450 retail.burpees bites beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013881351006140887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-787971106414656450.post-40812381872181018732017-11-27T12:00:00.000-05:002017-11-27T12:00:08.849-05:00(Ou)R HouseAs I'm sure not many of you know, I am in two long distance relationships. Two of my favorite people live in Baltimore, Maryland. One is my boyfriend who plays basketball for Loyola Maryland and the other is my longtime manager. Due to these long distance relationships I have been able to experience a lot of the Baltimore cuisine. One of my favorite places that I have been to with both of these lovely people is R House. R House began with 10 different chefs coming together and launching their restaurants in a warehouse-like building. A large seating area is surrounded by nine more pernimate restaurants and one popup restaurant that is always changing around. Their vendors include Ground & Griddled, a breakfast sandwich and coffee shop. Amano Taco offers tacos and taco bowls. Be.bim which is Korean BBQ. Arba is a mediterranean street food restaurant. BRD offers fried chicken sandwiches and wings. White Envelope offers venezuelan arepas, which if you're like me and have no idea what those are, Arepa is a type of dough originated in Colombia and Venezuela that is popularly used for sandwiches. Little Baby's Ice Cream is a "super premium ice cream", flavors include; buttered popcorn, hazelnut s'mores, everything bagel, and coffee peanut butter and toast. Hilo is a poke bowl and sushi place but my favorite bowl of theirs is the spicy Hawaiian. Lastly is Stall 11, which offers veggie dishes, smoothies and juices.
So no more wandering around trying to find a place that everyone is in the mood for. If you go to R House everyone can get whatever peaks their interest while still keeping a family style sit down. You can also quench your thirst by getting a cocktail at the bar in the middle of R House or a free water jug for the table. One more great thing about R House is the event that they have. They almost always have a game playing on the TV or this past Halloween they played Beatle Juice on the big screen projector outside. R House is one of my favorite places in Baltimore for any kind of food I'm in the mood for.burpees bites beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013881351006140887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-787971106414656450.post-48109244922015642472017-11-20T12:00:00.000-05:002017-11-20T12:00:14.354-05:00Jumpin' Jumpin'

Aerospace is know for training many of the Victoria's Secret models including Adriana Lima. Located in the heart of Chelsea, it is easy to get to from almost anywhere in Manhattan. They offer eight different classes along with a "Training Camp". Their classes include ThinkFast, AeroBox, Aero3, AeroBarre, AeroJump (the one I took), AreoImpact, AeroPower and AeroFly. Aerospace's website descrbes it's training camp as,"Every muscle in the body battles against gravity in this ultimate fitness class designed to enhance endurance, speed, stamina, power, coordination, recall, tone and muscle strength." Sounds like my next Aerospace workout will be taking this training camp challenge!burpees bites beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013881351006140887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-787971106414656450.post-41595158240622796532017-11-17T09:00:00.000-05:002017-11-17T09:00:16.551-05:00Make Chickpeas

All you need is a can of chickpeas, a baking pan and
whatever seasonings you’d like. First, you want to get the chickpeas as dry as
possible. Lay them out on a paper towel until you feel that they are pretty
dry. Next, spread them out onto a baking pan. Then add whatever seasonings you
are in the mood for! I usually use salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder
and cumin. If you don’t feel like you put the spices on evenly throughout the
pan, mix them together with a spoon but make sure you spread them out again
before putting them in the oven.
For the first 15 mins, set the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Then turn
it down to 250 and let them sit for about 2 hours or until crunchy. Then just
take them out of the oven and let them cool. Let me know what you think!

My roommate is friends with one of the co-owners of restaurant, so while sitting at dinner I was able to pick his brain. This is his first time in the restaurant game. He started his career in fitness and came up with the idea for Café Clover while talking to a friend. The two agreed that there weren't many restaurants in NYC that were healthy, not the extent of veganism, that had atmospheres that would still be great for a date night. Being in fitness he had a pretty good background on the healthy foods that people would be looking for. The menu seems perfect for someone on the paleo diet and the best thing about it is that all the food is locally sourced.
Now, what did I order? For the table we ordered the following appetizers:

Fall Salad

Roasted Baby Carrots (very good)

Loaded Sweet Potato

Octopus A La Plancha (Yum!)

Murray's Burrata (Another one please)

I didn't get a chance to try the Fall Salad or the Loaded Sweet Potato but every plate was empty as the waiters cleared the table for the main course, which leads me to believe that it was all very good. For my main course I ordered the Cauliflower Steak. After all of the appetizers I didn't think I would be able to eat a protein. When my dish came out I was confronted by a quarter of a head of cauliflower browned on both of the flat sides along with a kale salad. The meal was filling, pleasing to the eye and surprisingly satisfying for a plateful of veggies. If you are and your sweetheart are healthy food enthusiasts or even are just looking for a new place to give a try I'd check out Café Clover for your next date night.

Many people have heard about Body by Simone. Most likely through Khloe Kardashians show on E! called Revenge Body. I really loved dance when I was a kid and the people that I see coming in and out of the studio seem fit. So, I gave it a try. Lucky me the studio is right in my neighborhood on 26th Street by the water on the West Side. BBS has five signature classes; Dance Cardio, Full Body, ABC (Arms, Back and Core), HTB (Hips, Thighs, and Buns) and Trampoline Cardio.

I took a Dance Cardio Class. Oh boy did I sweat! I re-learned how to memorize choreography and it took me a little to get back into the swing of a dance class. However, with everyone around me enjoying themselves and trying their best, it made messing up easy to laugh at. The class started with a warm-up song. Then we learned 2-3 songs worth of choreography and put them all together to end the dance portion. It was honestly so much fun. As a kid I was more of a ballet girl rather than jaz or hip-hop but I loved this up-beat and challenging class. To end the class we did some ab and leg exercises along with a good stretch. I highly recommend this class for a good time and a good sweat.burpees bites beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013881351006140887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-787971106414656450.post-29764896738960940172017-08-21T09:57:00.000-04:002017-08-21T09:57:03.315-04:00iFly-ing

Time for some fun! We talked about how your mindset can cause a huge difference is feeling like your best self. One of the best ways to do that is to join in activities that make you happy. Whether that be a walk in the park, joining a sports team, or anything that makes you smile, do it!

Something fun that I did recently was indoor sky diving! I did this at the iFly facility back home in King Of Prussia, PA. There is a facility in Yonkers and I suggest you go! This was one of the most fun things I have ever done. Once you get there and get dressed in your jumpsuit, they sit you down for the instructional video. Next think you know, you're flying through the air, an instructor at your side. Sky diving is something that I have always wanted to experience and this was a good warm up to the real thing. So go out, do something fun for you today! Enjoy your Monday for a change.
This is one of the best facials I have ever had! I met Ashley Witte, the owner, through a mutual friend and she is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. She is genuine and has a great head on her shoulders. I was a little nervous about this treatment because I was getting it right before a big meeting with my agency. Ashely assured me that she wouldn't do anything that would cause my skin to get red. After the treatment, my skin looked amazing and I went into my meeting feeling confident.

Ashley has the top facial technologies and she does a great job describing what each machine does for your skin. Her website says it all, "Dedicated to the transformation of skin through organic elements, gentile touch and non-invasive technology." She is located in a very convenient location on 5th Ave and 32nd St and her space is calming and cozy. It's a new and personal experience every time I go in. I can't wait to go back. burpees bites beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013881351006140887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-787971106414656450.post-66600157370054619592017-08-14T15:33:00.005-04:002017-08-14T15:33:59.773-04:00Hang In There

Anya was created by Courtney Bauer who spent years in he role as a toga, pilates and meditation teacher. As it says on the Anya website her goal was to "create a fitness formula to strengthen the body, rest the mind and heal the soul." The Anya studio was very relaxing. The smell of aroma therapy wafted throughout the room as I walked in. There were soft curtains separating the different studios and as you can see in the photo, natural light flooded the room as plants grew by the windowsill.

The class I took as Aerial yoga for beginners. I was a little nervous taking this class because I had recently dislocated my shoulder and I didn't want to put too much pressure on it. The class was very relaxing but I did work up a sweat during the abs section. Trust me, you will feel those abs tomorrow. I really enjoyed this class. It had the relaxation I needed to get from the yoga portion but still gave me a good workout. I would go back to Anya again.burpees bites beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013881351006140887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-787971106414656450.post-6349496121234221062017-08-08T11:47:00.002-04:002017-08-08T11:49:07.033-04:00Casting MakeupAs I was getting ready this morning, I thought I'd do a little "how to" on how I get ready for my castings everyday.
From the beginning, I have lived with a model named Madlena Kalinova. She has helped me out immensely, giving me advice and recommendations about anything and everything.

Originally I wanted to interview Madlena to show what the typical modeling lifestyle is, but after reading her answers I realized that there is no one way to be fit. Since both of us are models, we are required to be healthy and fit. The focus of this post is to show that there is not one way to be healthy.I decided to do a little bit of a comparison because even though we are similar in a lot of ways, we live our lives differently. I interviewed Madlena about her modeling career, favorite foods, fitness regimens and beauty tips and then I answered the same questions. Here were her answers:

How long have you been modeling?

I got into modeling 15 years ago.

How did you first get into modeling?

I was discovered shopping with my mom on a local street market in my hometown.

If you didn't get into modeling, what do you think you would you be doing now?

When I was younger, I wanted to study law and would probably have been a lawyer if I didn't become a model.

What is your favorite part about modeling?

My favorite part about modeling is the flexibility of my schedule and the amount of money you can make per day shooting. Also, you get to know yourself and the world around you so well.

What is your definition of fitness?

Fitness is a way of life and very important part for me.

What do you eat on an average day?

I am following the Paleo diet and rarely have carbs. I tried being vegan but for now I think paleo works best for me. I have lots of kale salads with a protein, either chicken, turkey or fish. I don't eat red meat and have something sweet after one of my meals like a block of dark chocolate with coconut. I don't have a lot of dairy. After my workouts, I make sure to have a protein shake with almond milk to make sure I get all of the benefits.

What are your guidelines to eating out at a restaurant?

My guidelines are simple and straightforward: keep it healthy and skip dessert.

What is your favorite cheat meal?

When I cheat, I cheat with dessert. I don't have a favorite cheat meal since I love my diet but I think it would definitely be dessert.

What is your favorite healthy restaurant?

My top restaurants are Cafe Clover and Digg In. They have really good variety and everything is incredibly fresh!

What is your go-to beauty product?

My go-to beauty products are my Nivea lip balm, my eyelash curler and a good exfoliator or peel. You can never over-pamper yourself.

Here are my answers:

How long have your been modeling?

I started modeling about six years ago but I have only been doing it full-time for about two years.

How did you first get into modeling?

I was approached by my current manager in the Orlando Airport after a family vacation. We still joke about the bright pink florescent shirt he was wearing. He was on our flight and we saw him all throughout the airport that day as well as that night when we got back home. A couple months later we had dinner at my house and soon after, I signed a contract with him.

If you didn't get into modeling what would you be doing now?

If I wasn't going into modeling I would probably be going to school full time. I had no clue what I wanted to do before modeling came into my life but I don't think I would have ended up in NYC without it.

What is your favorite part about modeling?

I have two favorite parts about modeling. The first is seeing myself in a magazine or online months after doing a job. Seeing the work I have done come into fruition makes me smile. Second, I love seeing the people I am working with happy with how their creations look on me. Whether it's hair, makeup or clothing, it always makes me happy when they are happy.

What is your definition of fitness?

I would define fitness as a feeling. The feeling of being completely comfortable with the mental and emotional aspects of day-to-day life, as well as being able to do physically demanding activities. I actually added to a Wikipedia page for the first time in my life in the fitness section. The link to the page is here.

What do you eat on an average day?

What I eat everyday changes. I tend to snack A LOT. I usually have a protein shake in the morning after I workout. After that, I'll snack on some almonds or a cheese stick. Around lunchtime I have a chicken sausage (that I always ask my parents to send to me from home because I can only find them in Giant grocery stores by my house) paired with some vegetable, typically spinach. Then I'll have another snack around 3pm. I've been having fun trying some snack packs. Around dinner time, I'll have a turkey burger or protein bar with vegetables, it just depends on my schedule and how much I snack during the day. I try not to eat after 6pm, but if I have an evening workout I tend to get hungry later on, so I'll have some carrots or another cheese stick. I also make sure to drink lots of water during the day. It helps me to make sure I stay full and it's also great for your skin.
Here are some of my must-haves:

Weight Watchers String Cheese

Applewood Farms Turkey Burgers

Whole Foods Raw Almonds (although any raw almonds will work)

Baby Carrots (they are just easier to keep your portions low)

Premier Protein Shake (I generally have the chocolate ones but I have tried the vanilla and strawberry and I like them both as well)

Pure Protein Bars

Nature's Promise Chicken Sausage

Kraft Snack Trios

Sargento Balanced Breaks

What are your guidelines to eating out at a restaurant?

GRILLED CHICKEN! You can't really go wrong with grilled chicken in a salad or with a side of veggies. If you aren't a fan of grilled chicken just be aware of additional sauces as well as how the meal is cooked. You will want to try to avoid any heavy creams or fried foods.

What is your favorite cheat meal?

I unfortunately (or fortunately) have a sweet tooth and a love of savory things. So my cheat meal varies. However, I am still a snacker at heart, so it is usually something like a bag of potato chips or a KitKat bar. If I had to choose an actual meal, it'd be a turkey sandwich from Potbelly.

What is your favorite healthy restaurant?

I have a list saved in my phone:

Dig Inn

Bareburger (not 100% healthy but healthy for a burger place)

By Chloe.

Dimes

Hu Kitchen

What is your go to beauty product?

I love my Neutrogena waterproof mascara. It's something that I put on almost every morning and whether it is a good day or a rough one, I know it won't run on me. Mascara is also just a great way to add a little natural-looking pop to your eyes and it's extremely easy to apply.

This post is just to show all of you that there is no one way to be healthy. We all want to be our best selves and we can take suggestions and pointers from others, but in the end, we all have to be aware of our own bodies and find what works best for ourselves. Every body reacts differently to various diets, workouts, etc., so take notes of what you do and how you feel each time that you try a new way of doing something. On one day of the week record what you are trying to measure. Whether that be your weight, measurements, or just how you feel overall. It's important to follow your progress, but most importantly, to check in with your body. After taking those notes and measurements, evaluate not just what you see on the paper, but also how it makes you feel. The fitness journey isn't about sacrificing your happiness to lose a few pounds, but to find a balanced and healthy lifestyle that makes you happy. That's how you find what works best for you. That process is how you start your journey on becoming the best version of yourself.burpees bites beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013881351006140887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-787971106414656450.post-29855670509185303122017-07-31T10:20:00.000-04:002017-07-31T10:20:26.019-04:00Killer Barry

Ignore the unhappy look on my face, it's just because I couldn't breathe. Barry's Bootcamp is about as hard as it gets. I workout on a daily basis and this place kicked my butt. I have taken their arms and abs as well as their butt and legs class. I left both of these classes with my shirt see through I was sweating so much.

They assign you a treadmill or floor space and you either start you off on the floor or the treadmill. I liked starting on the treadmill better because it's a good warm up and when you are done you end on the floor which is better for stretching. You don't get to necessarily choose though. They do two rounds. You are on the treadmill twice and on the floor twice doing multiple exercises on the floor. I wasn't necessarily sore the next day but I was exhausted at the end. If you want to be tired and sweaty, then go to Barry's.burpees bites beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013881351006140887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-787971106414656450.post-58760607684516348092017-07-30T21:04:00.000-04:002017-08-02T20:45:04.142-04:00A Sit Down with Big Mike CastleSo here is the second part, as promised, to my collaboration with my trainer Mike Castle. I thought that his answers were interesting and I hope you do as well.
Bari Studio, located in Tribeca is a great workout that includes a combination of dance, bounce and tone. They are inspired by sports and dance training, making your workout high energy while working mind and body. They offer five different types of classes along with personal training. "Barione" is a 20 minute mix of everything Bari has to offer. "Dance" is a high cardio, fully body workout. "Micro" is the full body conditioning class. I would say it is almost equivalent to a barre class with the use of resistance bands, "bari balls" and skimmers.

I took Baris' "Bounce" class. The class I took was a half an hour of dance based bouncing on the trampoline and finishing with an ab workout. I really enjoyed this class however don't expect to be perfect at it the first time you try. Even with my 13 years of dance experience in my pocket, I still struggled keeping to the beat at certain points. I was sweating but not as much as I had hoped. However, I did feel a good workout coming from my abs. I would suggest giving this place a try as it was a nice change of pace from my regular barre and pilates workouts while still keeping the same basic intent: to lean and lengthen muscles.burpees bites beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013881351006140887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-787971106414656450.post-81078437869736428762017-07-28T14:44:00.001-04:002017-07-28T14:44:33.795-04:00Epsom Heaven

While in the process of becoming our best selves, many of us forget the importance of relaxation. Stress is often a major cause of weight gain and can lead to many other health problems. Relaxation of the mind and body helps to ease your way to healthy weight loss and a healthy life style.

Whenever I am taking a break from the city and have a weekend at home, I almost always take an epsom salt bath. Epsom salt is extremely high in magnesium, which is an element that most people are deficient in but it is very important to the body. Magnesium helps with many of the main bodily functions, like controlling muscles, energy production, and the elimination of harmful toxins. Magnesium deficiency as led to heart disease, stroke, arthritis, and many stress related illnesses.

You can get epsom salt almost anywhere, from your local supermarket to CVS. It is very easy to find and not expensive. Some packages say to take a bath 2-3 times a week but I just do it as needed. Occasionally, I will add a 1/2 cup of baby oil or olive oil which adds a great moisturizing benefit to your skin. If you feel stressed on a regular basis, or even if it's just exam week and you are over loaded with work, take a break and try an epsom salt bath. Your body will thank you for the boost of magnesium.burpees bites beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013881351006140887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-787971106414656450.post-15663854508527648082017-07-27T19:58:00.001-04:002017-08-02T20:40:14.626-04:00Some of My (Least) Favorite ThingsSince I have talked about Gotham Gym so much, I partnered up with my trainer Mike and asked him to help me out with a few posts! One is an interview with him about some of his best workout tips and the other (this one!) is a look into one of our workouts! So here we go:

As a warm-up, I will just for three minutes on the treadmill at a 6.0 mph speed. Next, I will do three minutes on a machine called the Versa Climber. If you, or your gym does not have one a good equivalent could be doing mountain climbers for three minutes. Up next, is a round of boxing!

This is my favorite part of the workout. Not only do I feel like I'm kicking butt, I also am working up a sweat. A round of boxing is about three minutes (I'm sure you're sensing a theme by now) and we do a round intermittently throughout the hour. Next we move on to abs:

If you are thinking, "I don't have a wheel or a bungie cord at my house! How am I supposed to so this?" Have no fear! There are many different ways you can work your abs with this movement, without these tools. If your have a wheel but no bungie, you can use a resistance band. If you don't have a resistance band you can do it without one, however this makes the exercise much more difficult. If you have something called an Ab Coaster you can use that. If all you have is a wood floor and a dish towel that's perfectly fine! Get down on your knees like you are going to do a modified pushup. Then, push yourself forward while keeping your body in a plank position. Try your best to be slow and controlled on the way out and back in. If you are doing this on a dish towel while on a wooden surface I suggest you do this on your elbows so you don't over stress your shoulders.

Many gyms have a machine that is for this exercise. They usually look like a very high arm chair that the seat fell out of. However, if you find a safe place to do this that does not have a back to it, you will get more of an ab workout. I do 12 reps straight leg, 10 reps bent knee. You can also do this like a Russian Twist, meaning crunch your legs from side to side. At one point in the video, I stop myself from swinging. You want to do your best not to swing. If you are swinging the movement will be coming from momentum rather than your ab muscles.

Almost everybody knows the classic plank and side plank, but to take it to the next level Mike puts a weighted sandbag on my back and sides. I do each position for 30 seconds, and make sure you remember do both the right and left side plank. Keep your butt and abs tight!

This exercise is called a bridge. You can do this many different ways. You can keep only one foot on the ground as I am doing here. Push your hips up for three seconds and then slowly let yourself down. You can do this with or without ankle weights. You can also keep both feet on the ground and just push your hips up and squeeze your glutes. I do 10-12 reps on each leg as you see in the video above.

If you are planning to follow this post for a workout routine, I would suggest doing it in sets. This means start out with the warm-up I described, then follow it with the individual exercises. After you finish one round of exercises, do another round of boxing followed by a second round of individual exercises. I would do this about three times through and it should be a good hour-long workout!burpees bites beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00013881351006140887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-787971106414656450.post-85201099505449168622017-07-14T15:01:00.000-04:002017-08-02T20:47:48.758-04:00Scheduling is EverythingHave you ever had one of those weeks where everything just seems completely out of control and unorganized? There was a period of time for me where I felt like my life was all over the place. In the world of modeling, you don't get your schedule until the night before at 6 pm. As you can imagine, that last minute scheduling can cause a constant change of plans. There is an importance to having a schedule and I realized it after I completely forgot about a doctor appointment. So, later that day I picked up a calendar. This is my how to post on how to stay organized!
This is my handy dandy calendar. I personally like to write things down but you can also use the calendar in your phone. The most important thing to help you keep your schedule is to write down everything. Even if it is a tentative plan, write it in pencil or mark it as a different color in your phone. Just make sure you have it written down somewhere. Next, remember to bring your planner with you wherever you go. This is where having your calendar on your phone comes in handy. Your calendar should always be accessible. So, finally I say that anyone can make their life better and more organized by keeping a schedule. Just remember, write everything down no matter what and make sure you always have your planner close by. You never know when you might need to make plans.

These are blogs that I check out from time to time and if you have time or interest I suggest you check them out yourself. There was a post from Margaux's Closet that I thought would be beneficial to my readers. The post is called Inspired Summer Makeup. I loved her suggestions for a summer makeup routine:

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">Stay moisturized, and take care of your skin. If you aren't taking care of your skin, chances are you might feel the need to add more makeup to cover up any blemishes you might have, I know I get that urge but I encourage you to fight it. If you really focus on skincare first, you will have such an easier time when it comes to applying a natural flawless face of make up for the hot and humid weather. Oils, moisturizers are key, and really help your skin to look it's best during the hot months.

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">Remember to match your foundation. Change up your shades. It's never fun to have to purchase a new foundation shade just because you've gotten a summer glow from the sun but chances are you may need a different shade of foundation and concealer to accommodate changes between your winter and summer coloring. You can even opt for a tinted moisturizer a shade darker than you’d wear in winter. Match the foundation shade to your skin on your face, or even right below the neck but not on your body, because those tend to be darker than the rest of your body.

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">Sunscreen is a must have. Try to look out for non-comedogenic products. Non-comedogenic beauty products are designed not to clog pores (which can lead to irritation and blemishes) which is especially important in the summer. If you've realized your sunscreen clogging your pores, it's probably not non-comedogenic. Hot and humid weather leads to sweat, which takes a longer time to evaporate off your skin, and combining that with oily products isn’t the best for your pores. I would look for the words "oil-free" as well."

After doing a juicing camp I was turned on to the world of juicing. I wouldn't do a camp again but I like having a day of juicing every once in a while. Juice press is one of my favorite places to pick up a juice.
The staff is fully prepared to answer any questions you may have about the juices. They will help you prepare a cleanse that is perfect for you whether it is your first cleanse or your 100th. The juice prices are competitive with the other top juice stores and I find that the Juice Press has the widest variety of juices that actually taste good. They also have some of the best clean eating meals and snacks. If you're looking try a new juicing or are just looking for a new juice store, I recommend trying the Juice Press.
